Haryana to Honour Brave Sisters who Fought off Molesters

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said that Pooja and Aarti, the sisters, who had resisted a molestation bid by three youths on board a moving bus, would be honoured on the occasion of  Republic Day.

Both the sisters had shown indomitable courage and bravery to fight off the thugs on board  a Haryana Roadways bus on Rohtak-Sonipat road. 

The Haryana government has also decided to honour the lady passengers, who shot the incident using a mobile phone camera. In fact, the video shot by female passenger had exposed the wrongdoing of the three youth. And it was with the help of the footage gleaned from the mobile phone that the police managed to identify the perpetrators and arrest them.

Besides, the state government has suspended Balwan Singh and Labh Singh-- driver and conductor respectively of the bus which belonged to Sonipat Depot. The government has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The video, which went viral on TV and social media, shows the two girls thrashing the molesters using a belt.A case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage woman’s modesty) and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC was registered against three youths--  Kuldeep, Mohit and Deepak.

The women, in their complaint, alleged that they were harassed by some youths on board a Haryana Roadways bus when they were on their way to college on Friday.

One of the girls said, “They threatened us and abused us. One of them touched my sister inappropriately. They started making obscene gestures.

After a heated exchange, one of the boys called up his friends. One of them beat my sister while two others caught hold of me. Then, I whipped out my belt and thrashed them. They pushed us out of the bus when it slowed down.”

Meanwhile, the Haryana Director General of Police and Transport Department have been directed to take effective steps to ensure safety and security of the woman passengers.

The bus drivers and conductors have also been directed to take steps to avoid such incidents in the future. 

Meanwhile, Haryana Government has suspended Balwan Singh, Labh Singh-- driver and conductor of the bus which belonged to Sonipat Depot.

The government has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
