IED Blast Kills Three, Injures Four

GUWAHATI:  An improvised explosive device (IED) blast killed three persons and injured four others in Imphal on Sunday.

Official sources said the explosion took place at a bus parking slot at around 6 am. “One person was killed on the spot in the blast, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital,” the police said.

The victims, all non-Manipuri labourers, had gathered at the site for tea when the explosion occurred.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal. Their condition is stated to be critical.

Three of them hail from Uttar Pradesh while the fourth is a bus conductor from neighbouring Nagaland. So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who visited the injured at the hospital, condemned the incident and described it as an act of “cowardice”.

The incident comes days after a similar blast at the MG Avenue in the city, that killed two persons and injured four others on December 15.
