A day after delivering a severe blow to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by resigning as the State Social Welfare Minister, Parveen Amanullah on Wednesday said she would not review her decision.

She also flayed the State government for its failure to curb corruption. Earlier, she met Nitish at his official residence. “I told Nitish ji that my decision is final and will not consider taking back my resignation” she told reporters.

She said the Chief Minister has asked her to reconsider her decision. Amanullah alleged that there was no transparency in the functioning of the State government. While talking to the media after submitting her resignation letter to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly she said the common man was suffering because of corruption.

“Nobody cares for the common man. Instead people are blamed for whatever goes wrong here,” she added. Surviving on a wafer-thin majority with the support of four Congress members, as many independents and one CPI MLA in the state Assembly, the JD(U) strength would get reduced to 117 in 243 member House, after her resignation.

Amanullah was the first Muslim woman to become a Minister in Bihar, she is also the first person to quit the Nitish Kumar Cabinet, after the split with the BJP.

When he decided to snap ties with the BJP the Bihar Chief Minister had the Muslim votebank in mind. Amanullah’s resignation from the Cabinet may put a dampener on Nitish’s game plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
