India, China Discuss Border Issues

India and China on Monday discussed recent developments along the border, especially in the western sector, as well as the implementation of the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement.  Ministry of External Affairs’ Joint Secretary (East Asia) Gautam Bambawale and Ouyang Yujing, Director General, Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an official level meeting of the Working Mechanism for consultation and Coordination on border affairs.

“The talks, which were held in a candid, constructive and forward looking atmosphere, reviewed recent developments in the India-China border areas especially in the western sector,” a press release issued by the ministry said.

“Implementation of the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA), additional confidence building measures and further steps for maintaining peace and tranquility were also discussed,” it added.
