Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying he presided over the most corrupt government in independent India.
In his latest blog titled “Under Dr Manmohan-Sonia Duo, Parliament hits an all time low”, Advani said the cash-for-vote scam was the most disgraceful scam during UPA-I.
“Dr Manmohan Singh began his tenure with a clean reputation. But as his decade long tenure is coming to an end, he would leave behind him a record of having presided over the most corrupt government in Independent India,” Advani wrote in his blog published on Sunday.
Listing out corruption cases Advani said: “Starting with the scandals that surfaced during the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, then proceeding to the 2 G Spectrum scams, most of the scams that came to light under the Congress government were exposures made by the CAG or the judiciary and related to bribes allegedly received by Ministers/officials in the government for illegal favours extended to the bribe givers.”
The BJP patriarch also drew a parallel between the cash-for-vote scandal and the ugly scenes witnessed during the introduction of the Telangana Bill last week. “No less shameful for the prestige and reputation of the Indian Parliament than this Cash-for-Episode Scam that occurred in UPA I’s time is the ugly scenes witnessed under UPA II.”
Advani said three states - Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar- were divided under the NDA rule, creating three new States - Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand without even a ripple of disturbance. “With the present government, session after session has had to be adjourned due to the chaos created over Telangana between the supporters and opponents of the division.”
Recounting the horror witnessed in the house last week, Advani said “most members were shocked to see as many as half a dozen Ministers of the present government totally disregard the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Party Chairperson Soniaji in the House, rush into the well of the House and join the ugly ruckus that was taking place, when amidst shouting of slogans for and against the division of AP, Parliamentary papers were being torn and thrown all around,” Advani said indicating the complete failure of the UPA floor managers in running Parliament.
