MHA Seeks IAF Choppers for Peaceful Polls

In order to ensure peaceful polls during the upcoming General Elections, the Union Home Ministry will request for at least 10 choppers of the IAF for swift movement of paramilitary personnel.

On Thursday, a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami and attended by chiefs of paramilitary forces and senior Home Ministry officials discussed various security measures, including the deployment of central police forces, during the process of elections and also providing assistance to the state law and order machinery.Though hiring BSF’s Mi-17 choppers was considered, it was unavailable. Dhruv choppers are currently serving in Naxal-hit areas and finally it decided to seek IAF help.
