Akhilesh's Uncle is UP Government's Saving Grace

At a time when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is struggling to make an impact, his uncle and senior Cabinet Minister Shivpal Yadav is making inroads by creating space for the common man to air their grievances.
The minister had, in a first-of-its-kind experiment in the SP government, publicised phone numbers of his departments to enable people to register their complaints.
The idea has been implemented to connect with people in this vast state.
“Hello, I am Shivpal Yadav speaking to you. If you have any complaints on corruption, irregularity or any incomplete work, please dial..... and you will get response,” this is how a phone call is being received for the redressal of people’s complaints related to the PWD, irrigation, cooperative and other departments held by the minister.
The minister has greeted more than two lakh people and got their problems registered. “I have asked the officials to address the people’s problems immediately and if a complaint was recorded for the second time, strict action would be taken against the officials,” Shivpal said while speaking to Express.
When ministers such as Mohammad Azam Khan and Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya are proving to be a liability to the SP government, the PWD Minister is turning out to be a performer and deliverer.
The minister has already suspended more than 150 officials, including engineers, in his departments.
His random inspections, spot suspensions and imposition of code of conduct have created fear in the minds of the government officials.
When the CM was hooted and shown black flags at the relief camps by the riot victims in Muzaffarnagar and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav failed to muster courage to visit them, it was Shivpal who toured the riot-affected areas and submitted a report to the state government for their rehabilitation.
