Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Satya Prakash Sakhwar can proudly claim to have achieved something no other debutant MLA has achieved: rubbing shoulders with senior leaders such as Arjun Singh, Congress treasurer Motilal Vora and former Madhya Pradesh CM Babulal Gaur.
Before joining politics, Prakash was working with the state police’s Special Armed Force and had also been a Personal Security Officer(PSO) for MPs, CMs and leaders such as Singh, Vora, Gaur and many state ministers. Prakash, who was recently appointed president of the state BSP unit by party supremo Mayawati, joined police in 1980 and served the force for 23 years. And Prakash has applied for two PSOs for himself, citing that his Ambah constituency falls in the dacoit-infested Morena district.
“I did a commando course conducted by the BSF and later worked as a gunman for Arjun Singhji, Voraji and Gaurji when he was the CM. Later in 2003, I came in contact with Kanshi Ramji, who taught me the concept of power and superpower and asked me to join him. I was a head constable when I resigned in 2003,” the 55-year-old MLA said. Prakash completed his BA, MA and LLB while in the employ of the state police.
“I appeared in the state public service commission exams twice and reached till the mains stage. I also appeared for the civil judge exam but the destiny had other plans,” he said. One of the reasons he chose politics was the company of the senior leaders he was exposed to because of the nature of his work. “During my stint as the PSO of such senior leaders, I realised that politics can provide immense opportunity for my own personal growth and also to bring in positive changes in people’s lives,” he recalled. Prakash has his task cut out: to strengthen the party that has just four MLAs in the state. “I want to make the party stronger and make sure that we do well in the coming LS polls,” he said.
