NEW DELHI: The BJP has said the prices of food items were increasing because of hoarding by some “traders close to the Congress”, as there was no shortage of onions as was made out. There was sufficient supply of onion and the market rate was between Rs 18-25, but shopkeepers may be selling it at a higher price. The government has already conducted raids at over 200 places and we will identify the hoarders and expose them soon,”a BJP functionary said.
However, the BJP was on defensive on the issue of petrol price hike.
It said the hike was due to the Iraq crisis and that the government had little control over it.
