PDP Slams Omar's 'Crocodile Tears' for Jammu

JAMMU: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is "shedding crocodile tears" for Jammu region as he had realised that NC is not going to get seats from the Valley in the upcoming Assembly elections, a PDP leader said today.

Ved Mahajan, a former MLC and senior leader of PDP, said for the last five years and seven months, the Chief Minister has maintained a silence over Jammu's woes, but now he has been trying to project himself as its well-wisher.

"Omar is shedding crocodile tears for Jammu region in the last leg of the coalition government's tenure," Mahajan said, contending that Omar has now realised that his party National Conference is not going to get seats from the Valley in the elections, and so was "pouring out his love for Jammu".

In view of extension of trains to Katra which would affect business in Jammu, Mahajan questioned the Chief Minister on why he did not speed up the various tourism projects in the region.

Omar has done nothing to complete tourism projects like Tawi lake, Mubarak Mandi cable car project, Border tourist circuit, Gharana Wetland, religious tourist circuit and improving tourism infrastructure in and around Jammu, he said.

He also said that the pace of projects which were started before formation of Omar government, was slowed down.

PDP has apprehension of Jammu's suffering and has already formulated plans to boost the tourism and economy of Jammu, but those who were in power had fully ignored it, the former MLC said, adding that in the coming election, the ruling coalition partners NC and Congress would be rooted out from state politics.
