More AIIMS-like Institutions Soon

NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha that work on AIIMS like institutions being set up across the country had begun.

He added that under Phase-I of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakshya Yojana (PMSSY), six new AIIMS had been set up in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhatisgarh) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand).

According to Vardhan, the first and second batches of 50 and 100 MBBS students respectively had been given admissions at each of the six AIIMS in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Besides, the first batch of 60 BSc Nursing students had enrolled there in 2013-14.

The House was also informed that the admission process for the next batch of MBBS and BSc Nursing students in the current academic year is in progress.

While the Outpatient(OP) Department services have become functional at all the newly established AIIMS,the Inpatient Department has started functioning at five of them.

Further the Health Minister revealed that the Centre had plans to set up AIIMS in each state.
