Vakkom Purushothaman Resigns from Governor's Post

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Mizoram Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman, who was transferred to Nagaland by the NDA government, has resigned from the post. "The transfer was made without consulting me," he said.

Purushothaman said he would convey his resignation to the Centre. Talking to reporters on his arrival here last evening, Purushothaman, a veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister, said he will be actively involved in party politics, but not in electoral politics.

In a reshuffle of governors effected by the Centre on July 6, Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram while Purushothaman was transferred and appointed as Governor of Nagaland. He was also given additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura. He was sworn-in as the Mizoram Governor on September 2, 2011.
