MUMBAI: The Congress is likely to approach the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP’s poll expenses to promote him during the Lok Sabha elections.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said: “Modi was projected like fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and the BJP succeeded in its marketing strategy. We have approached the EC in this regard in another way. It should take cognizance of the BJP’s huge spending on advertisements.”
“It was a kind of paid news. Would the BJP show the expenses for paid news and the amount spent on advertisements to EC? What was the source of that money? If that was collected from Indian donors, what were the promises made to them?” Chavan asked.
On the upcoming Maharashtra elections, Chavan said: “No one from the Congress has requested Pawar saheb to lead the campaign. No one from our party has discussed the subject with me.”
