NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today accused BJP of targeting rival parties and trying to "replicate Gujarat style of functioning in Delhi" following the arrest of an office bearer of the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit for allegedly putting up provocative posters.
"BJP is trying to replicate Gujarat style of functioning in Delhi. Police in Gujarat also used similar tactics to suppress its (BJP's) opponents and frame the innocents," AAP leader and the party's Political Affairs Committee member, Sanjay Singh, told reporters here.
The remark came a day after AAP's Delhi unit secretary Dilip Pandey and four other party volunteers were arrested for allegedly trying to incite people by putting up posters with provocative messages.
Singh said that Pandey was arrested without any "solid evidence".
AAP MLA Manish Sisodia alleged today that, initially, two party volunteers were forced to name senior party leaders.
"Dilip Pandey was called for interrogation and later arrested. (But) the posters were put by Amantullah," Sisodia said.
He added that the content of the poster was marked to Pandey in an email and it was unfair on the part of the police to arrest him on the basis of that.
Party spokesperson and journalist-turned-politician Ashutosh, claimed, "Police have said that the order (to arrest Pandey) has come from the top and it's their compulsion. They are saying there is nothing concrete in the case, but there is pressure on them.
"We will decide the future course of action and see how the investigation progresses."
Senior AAP leader Yogendra Yadav termed the poster "offensive with communal overtones" and against the ideology of the party.
"Poster in question is very offensive with communal overtones. Runs against the ideology of AAP. Must be condemned by all," Yadav said in a tweet.
