UP: Woman Gang-raped, House Robbed in Hapur

HAPUR (Uttar Pradesh): Over a dozen robbers looted cash and jewellery worth around Rs.3 lakh, kidnapped a woman and gang-raped her in a field in Hapur district of western Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday.

Police said 14 robbers armed with pistols, iron rods and knives barged into the house in Narayanpur village Saturday midnight, and took the six members of the family hostage.

They tied their arms behind their backs, dumped them inside a room and took away all the valuables, including Rs.30,000 in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth over Rs.2 lakh.

The assailants then kidnapped the daughter-in-law of the house owner, took her to a nearby field where three of the robbers raped her and fled the spot.

In the early hours of Sunday, the family members and neighbours found the woman lying unconscious in the field, and took her to a government hospital in Ghaziabad.

A case has been registered, and raids are being conducted to nab the criminals. The woman has been sent for medical examination to ascertain rape, said Hapur Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar.
