Muzaffarnagar Riots: 248 People Chargesheeted by SIT So Far

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the Muzaffarnagar riot cases has so far filed chargesheet against 248 people in connection with the 48 different cases, SIT sources said Saturday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the Muzaffarnagar riot cases has so far filed chargesheet against 248 people in connection with the 48 different cases, SIT sources said Saturday.

248 people have been chargesheeted so far in connection with the riots while 1195 people have been found involved and their list has been sent to respective police stations for arresting them, Manoj Jha, Additional SP, SIT told reporters here today.

417 accused have been arrested so far in connection with different cases, he said.

The court has issued non bailable warrants against 410 absconding accused and initiated attachment proceedings  against 222 accused under provision 82 crpc, said Jha.

During investigation names of 631 people were found falsely implicated. SIT has also filed final report in court against 102 people due to lack of evidences against them, he said.

Sit has been completed its investigation in more cases and but has not filed chargesheets yet as the accused haven't been arrested, said Jha.

Six cases of gang rape were registered against 27 people during riots in which 22 people were found involved.

While one Vedpal was arrested, 21 others are absconding and attachment proceedings against them have been initiated by the court.

Police had registered 566 riot cases against 6244 people in connection with violence in which over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September last year.

It is learnt that the apex court has reserved its decision on the writ petition demanding CBI inquiry into Muzaffarnagar violence when SIT has completed investigation in maximum cases here.
