People Think I Am a Frightening Man, Thanks to Media: Bhagwat

In a dig at the media, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today said someone he met recently had been under the impression that he (Bhagwat) would be a "frightening" person.

"Those who are unaware of what the RSS is have a different perception of us," Bhagwat said, after releasing a book on former RSS chief, the late Rajendra Sinh alias Rajju Bhaiyya, at a function in suburban Vile Parle this evening.

"I went to a place a week ago and was staying at someone's home. The neighbours came. We got talking. One of them said, `we thought you would be a very "daravana" (frightening) person. But we see you are mixing with everyone'," the RSS chief said.

"I asked: who told you that I am a daravana person? He said: from the media it seems that you are so.

"Such is the perception (some) people have (of RSS). At such a time it is essential that the society gets to know how Sangh people are and how is their behaviour," Bhagwat said.

An English magazine recently carried an article which linked blast accused Swami Aseemanand with Bhagwat and other top RSS leaders. RSS leaders rubbished the allegations.

Bhagwat spoke of Rajju bhaiyya being a simple and transparent individual. "He implemented what Gandhiji said about we being just trustees where money is concerned. He was very frugal."
