Savita Bhatti, wife of popular comedian the late Jaspal Bhatti and Aam Aadmi Party(AAP)candidate in Chandigarh, on Sunday withdrew from the fray citing lack of interest in continuing with the poll campaign.

Savita,52, shot off an e-mail stating her decision to the AAP top brass in Delhi. Though she declined to comment, sources said she was unhappy as she was not getting enough support from the AAP activists after her candidature was announced.

Some members of the AAP local leadership had kept off last week’s function, which kicked-off Savita’s campaign, in order to show their resentment at the ticket being awarded to her. Meanwhile, AAP spokesman Rajeev Godara was not available for comment once it became clear that Savita would not remain in the fray.

Savita, who has a master’s degree in mass communication, besides featuring in a few movies had earlier said that she would fight against corruption and the other problems faced by the common people.

The Congress and the BJP are yet to announce their candidates for the Chandigarh seat.
