BJP to Decide Candidates for 5 States

Racing against time, the BJP’s central election committee will again meet on Saturday to declare the list of candidates for states going to poll during the initial phases, which could also include the names of some of its senior leaders.

A day before north India goes into Holi mood, the BJP will decide on a list of candidates for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, and even some of the seats for the electorally important Uttar Pradesh. All these states go to the hustings on April 10. The announcement has been delayed after intense bickering within the party over the allotment of tickets in states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. It’s turning out to be a fight between leaders who had served the party for long, and new entrants who lured by hopes of securing tickets, sources said.

The bickering within the party is also at the level of picking of choice seats by the BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and party president Rajnath Singh. Sources said the matter was likely to be resolved by Saturday.
