It  was a case of conflicting fortunes for BJP candidates from Amritsar and Chandigarh respectively, Arun Jaitley and actress Kirron Kher, on their maiden visit to the constituencies on Tuesday.

While Jaitley, who is the BJP national secretary, received a warm welcome, chaos marked Kirron’s arrival here as supporters of the saffron party waved black flags and hurled stones and eggs at the car she was travelling in.

“I have been in politics for a long-time. I am grateful to the party for allowing me to serve the people of Amritsar,” Jaitley, who is contesting his first-ever LS polls said. Ex-cricketer and incumbent Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had represented the constituency since 2004, was conspicuous by his absence.
