Anandiben submits resignation, new CM to be announced on Friday

Anandiben handed over her resignation to Governor O.P. Kohli. He requested her to continue as the working Chief Minister till the next incumbent is decided.

GANDHINAGAR: The BJP is to announce its new Chief Minister for Gujarat on Friday afternoon, a senior party official said on Wednesday after Chief Minister Anandiben Patel formally handed over her resignation to the Governor.

BJP state in-charge Dinesh Sharma told reporters that Anandiben's successor would be decided at a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party after national president Amit Shah flies down here to oversee the transition on Thursday.

He said the announcement of the new Chief Minister could come around 3 p.m. on Friday.

Anandiben handed over her resignation to Governor O.P. Kohli. He requested her to continue as the working Chief Minister till the next incumbent is decided.

Earlier, her resignation was accepted by the BJP Parliamentary Board.

Anandiben was accompanied by state BJP president and Cabinet Minister Vijay Rupani and several other senior ministers as well as Sharma when she met the Governor.
