NEW DELHI: As dangling carrots failed to yield any result in the case of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet village adoption scheme —the Rural Development Ministry has decided to wield the stick.
Peeved over the dismal response from MPs towards the scheme where every member is expected to adopt a village and improve its infrastructure, the ministry is planning to come out with a ‘SAGY progress report’ which will be advertised widely. The ministry plans to display the report at a public spot in every constituency.
“The fear of being exposed may force the MPs to be more proactive,” said a source. The report will have pictures of MPs along with details of the villages they have adopted and there will be blank spaces next to the photos of MPs who have not adopted any village. “Such a report could be quite damaging for them as people in the constituency will come to know that the MP is not doing enough for them. This may force them to act,” he said.
