Sonia transferred to private hospital, stable under care of personal doctor

However, she will be remaining in the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for the next few days.

NEW DELHI: Sixty-nine-year-old Congress president Sonia Gandhi is stable now. However, she will be remaining in the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for the next few days, sources in her party said.

This is to allow to recover from the exhaustion and dehydration suffered during her road show in Varanasi, which had to be interrupted. Sonia was on Wednesday, shifted to the hospital from the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital so that she can be under the care of her own doctor. She had to be rushed to the Army hospital, the nearest from Delhi ariport, late Tuesday night after her blood pressure fell during the flight back to the capital. According to party sources, Sonia had undertaken the Varanasi road show, virtually kicking off the Uttar Pradesh poll campaign, despite running a fever.

After having completed 7-km of the 8-km long road show, Sonia suddenly retired into the car and was taken to a guesthouse with high-fever. Sheila Dikshit stepped in to complete the road show.

“A political programme of such a scale requires lot of preparations. She didn’t want to disappoint the party workers by cancelling it at the last moment,’’ a Congress leader told Express.
