DHANBAD: A junior research fellow in the petroleum engineering department of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, was today remanded in judicial custody in connection with eve-teasing of girl students of the institution.

Prakash Kumar was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajive Ranjan, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

He was arrested by police late in the evening yesterday on the complaint of IIT ISM management after four final-year girl students lodged a complaint against him alleging that he had tried to molest them and had abused them in the canteen that morning.

As per their complain, the girl students were crossing their hostel at 10.45 PM when Prakash pushed one of them in an unsavory manner and went into the canteen.

The girls followed him into canteen and confronted him.

Prakash then allegedly abused them and said he would have raped them had they been junior students.

He even attempted to throw hot coffee from his cup at them.

At this, other male students present at the canteen came out in support of the girls and the institute management called the police and lodged an FIR against Prakash late in the night.

A police official said Prakash had also threatened policemen at the police station.
