SHIMLA: To control their growing population in areas outside forests, Himachal Pradesh government today announced an incentive of Rs 300 for killing a monkey.

"Monkeys have been declared vermin in 38 tehsils of the State," Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri said.

The decision came two days after the government wrote to Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to declare monkeys as "vermin" in Shimla Municipal Corporation for one more year.

Bharmouri said a committee consisting of Divisional Forest Officer, Assistant Conservator of Forest and Range Forest Officer has been formed to determine and authenticate the claims for disbursement of incentives.
