Fuel cheaper by 0.75% for digital buyers: FM Jaitley on 30th day of Demonetisation

With the demonetisation completing one month on Thursday, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley briefed the media over the significant decisions that the finance ministry has taken.

“RBI has been releasing currency as per schedule. The aim of Demonetisation has been to move towards digital transactions,” Jaitley said. 

With discounts being the major takeaway for those who use digital mode of transactions, Jaitely announced these decisions:

  • Petrol/diesel cheaper for those who pay by digital mode, to get 0.75% discount.
  • NABARD will give Rupay card to people who have Kisan Credit Card
  • People buying monthly seasonal tickets in the Suburban railway networks through digital payment mode, to get 0.5% discount. This is effective from Jan 1st 2017, starting from the Mumbai suburban railways.
  • Insurance cover worth Rs.10 lakhs for those who book Railway tickets through digital mode. Also, 5% discount on digital payment mode for railway facilities like catering, retiring rooms
  • Two Point Of Sale (POS) machines will be provided to villages with 10,000 population, 1 lakh villages to be selected
  • Buying general, life insurance policies from PSU insurers websites and premium to get 10% and 8% discount, respectively.
  • 10% discount on RFID (Radio-frequency identification) and FASTag procured through digital payments at toll plazas across all national highways.

Jaitley said, "The cost of these discounts will be borne by each of the organisation because most of these discounts are offered by the bodies which are run by central government or are PSU units".
