RAIPUR: Heeding Narendra Modi's call to go forth and spread the message of a cashless economy, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh gave a demo to the tribal people of a remote village in Balramput district Monday.

He ducked into a general store and asked to buy a pen. Choosing one, he swiped his debit card and pen was his.

Turning to his audience, his drove the message home: “Why fear cashless? You can easily buy your day-to-day needs through cashless transactions," he said.

The chief minister was on an e-vangelist trip Monday, touring Balrampur district in northern Chhattisgarh to inaugurate Wi-Fi facilities in seven gram panchayats. “Tribal villagers can now go for cashless transactions and fulfil the PM's dream of a cashless society,” he said wherever he want.

To take the mission further, his government is planning to raise a “digital army” of 10 lakh volunteers who will motivate people to shift to non-cash transactions in the state.
