CHANDIGARH: In a major jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its national executive member Yamini Gomar resigned from the primary membership of the party on Tuesday alleging wide-scale corruption in the party and terming it anti-Punjabi.

Yamni today alleged, “The leaders of the party which claims to weed out corruption and crime in Punjab itself are engaging in such acts. AAP leaders Durgesh Pathak and Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh, are the biggest manipulators. AAP has already begun the loot even before elections, the Congress and Akali Dal looted the State after they came to power. The volunteers work twenty hours and put in their best of efforts. The so-called observers of the AAP which have come from outside have captured the entire Punjab and are indulging in corruption.’’

She termed the party as anti-Dalit, anti-Sikh and anti-Punjabi. Being one of the prominent Dalit faces of the party, she was expecting a ticket from Sham Churasi (reserved) Assembly seat. She had earlier contested Lok Sabha elections in 2014 on AAP ticket from Hoshiarpur but lost.

She termed national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent announcement of appointing a Dalit as deputy CM as an election stunt.

“It is nothing more than an election stunt. If the AAP is so concerned, why the party did not announce its MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, who is a Dalit, as the leader of parliamentary group,” she said. She also termed the release of the Dalit manifesto as a poll plank of the party.

Baljit Singh, vice-president of the youth wing, AAP Punjab who also resigned, said, “There is no democracy within the party. We cannot speak freely as the volunteers have no role in decision-making. All old volunteers, who had established the party in Punjab, have been thrown out one by one. The party tickets are openly being sold.”
