'Former Congress Legislator Arrested on Charges of Murder'

BHUBANESWAR: Former Pipili legislator Yudhistir Samantray was arrested by Puri police from the city on Saturday evening. Samantray is accused of masterminding the murder of a youth leader who was killed by unidentified assailants near Uttara square on outskirts of the city.

Acting on a tip-off, the cops raided an apartment in Damana area here and nabbed Samantray, who went into hiding after his name figured in the murder case.

A day after the incident Samantray had shifted to Bhubaneswar with his family and was staying in a rented accommodation, Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi said. “He was brought to Puri after submitting a formal intimation to the local (Chandrasekharpur) police and will be produced in the court tomorrow, Sarangi added.

A panchayat samiti member, Sushant Mishra was lynched by miscreants near Uttara square. Sushant’s mother Ritanjali Mishra, in her complaint before Pipili police, had mentioned that Samantray was behind her son’s murder.
