KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party’s eastern rival Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday broke her silence over the Bhopal encounter, and termed it as ‘fake’ and a result of political vendetta.

The West Bengal Chief Minister, who is pretty active on the social media, has raised serious doubts over the entire episode of jailbreak and subsequent ‘encounter’ of SIMI operatives.

“We do not agree with the so-called encounter theory. Many unanswered questions arise in the minds of the people...This is happening in the name of political vendetta. Issues like these make me deeply concerned about national integrity and unity,” tweeted the West Bengal Chief Minister, who is pretty
active in the social media.

With her remarks, she has joined the bandwagon of opposition parties including Congress and CPM, who have called for independent inquiry into the entire episode, after graphic evidence of apparent staging of encounter of the eight SIMI operatives cropped up in the social media. Subsequent questions were raised over the jeans worn by the killed operatives, availability of weapons with them and the operatives looking at the policemen from a hillock without showing any sign of violent confrontation were made available to the public through the leaked video.

The Trinamool supremo has also tweeted over the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi on Wednesday.

“What is happening? Unprecedented. A CM is detained in his own state. He cannot move about freely. Unacceptable,” she tweeted.

“Very sad that one of our former jawans committed suicide. Unfortunate that @officeOfRG & @msisodia stopped from visiting bereaved family...They should be allowed. Our representative is on his way
to Delhi,” read another tweet of the Trinamool supremo.

Mamata Banerjee’s reactions come at a time when she is trying to project herself as the leader of the ‘anti right-wing politics’ in the country.  Recently, she had alleged that the Centre was trying to interfere in the federal structure of the country by allowing direct transfer of MGNREGA funds into the accounts of the
beneficiaries.
