ED grills meat exporter Moin Qureshi

Qureshi was questioned by the agency officials for several hours in connection with the case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

NEW DELHI: A day after he returned from abroad, the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday grilled controversial meat exporter Moin Qureshi in a money laundering case.

Qureshi arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here last night after which the agency officials served him a court directive to present himself before the ED for investigation, sources said.

Qureshi was questioned by the agency officials for several hours in connection with the case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

While hearing a plea filed by Qureshi last month, the Delhi High court had directed him to return to India by mid-November and appear before the agency for questioning in the PMLA case.

Multiple agencies are probing the meat exporter for offences including tax evasion and money laundering among others.

The Income Tax department had earlier issued notices to Qureshi under the new Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015 as probe revealed a host of assets held by him and his family members abroad that were not declared before the IT department here.

Qureshi had hoodwinked the authorities and on October 15 left the country from the IGI airport here despite a Look Out Circular issued by the ED pending against him.
