SRI NAGAR: The BSF on Friday claimed to have killed seven Pakistani Rangers while retaliating to a ceasefire violation along the International Border in Hira Nagar sector of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.

One BSF jawan was critically injured in the incident. The border guards also claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid of militants in the Hira Nagar sector by killing a militant.

“A BSF constable, Gunman Singh, received bullet injury in the Pakistani Rangers sniper firing. He was evacuated under the cover of fire to Government Medical College, Jammu, where doctors have termed his condition as critical,” a BSF official in Jammu told Express.

“After the Pakistani breach of the ceasefire, the border guards launched an aggressive offensive," he added.

“During the intermittent firing, seven Pakistani Rangers were killed.” According to sources, Pakistani Rangers also fired on security forces positions along IB in Kathua, Samba and Paragwal sector and the border guards responded effectively. The BSF official said during the intervening night of October 19/20, BSF men foiled an infiltration bid of militants in village Bobiyan of Hira Nagar sector in Jammu.

“The BSF men fired on the militants. The fire was returned by the militants and in the exchange of fire one militant was killed while others returned to Pakistani territory,” he said.

Meanwhile, defence spokesman in Jammu Lt Col Manish Mehta said army men foiled an infiltration bid of militants in the densely forest area along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector this morning.

“On noticing some suspicious activity, the troops challenged a group of 2-3 militants, who were attempting to cross into this side of J&K. The group of militants opened fire on the soldiers. The fire was returned by the troops, forcing the militants to flee back,” he said.

Mehta further said Pakistani troops breached border ceasefire in Rajouri sector of Jammu province.
