Adopt zero tolerance on law and order: Akhilesh to officials

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today directed officials to adopt "zero tolerance" on law-and-order related issues to avoid any "communal incident" in the state in view of the upcoming elections.

"The officials have been clearly directed to adopt zero tolerance on issues related to law and order," Akhilesh, who held a high-level meeting with officials in this regard, told reporters.

"Elections are scheduled to be held in the state soon...

festivals are approaching ... yatras are also being planned.

No communal incident should be allowed to take place. There should be no questions on the issue of law and order. I have given clear orders to officials to adopt zero tolernace on matters of law and order," he said.

Akhilesh also said that "strong action" was taken against officials in connection to the Bulandshahr incident.

On the question of Uttar Pradesh lagging behind on law and order, he said, "I have always been stressing that continuous work is required in this area." 

"We took strong action against officials in connection with the Bulandshahr incident. In Ballia when Opposition party tried to create problem, action was again taken against officials," he added.

Officials have also been asked to ensure that behaviour of policemen at the police stations should be good.

"There are two basic problems at the police station level, first that cases are not lodged and second is bad behaviour of police. A marked difference will be seen in this area with Dial-100 scheme soon," he said.
