Rs 6.2 crore FICN seized from States post-demonetisation, Gujarat tops list with Rs 5.7 crore seizure

While the state police seized FICN with a face value of Rs 1, 26, 62,000 from Gujarat, the NIA seized Rs 4,49,58,000 in Rs 2,000 denomination from the State.

NEW DELHI: Post-demonetisation, Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs 6.2 crore were seized by security agencies in different parts of the country with maximum seizures being reported from Gujarat. 

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said in Rajya Sabha that the highest Rs 5.7 crore worth FICN were recovered in Gujarat.              

Out of the seized FICN, 27,949 ‘notes’ were of Rs 2,000 denomination and 12,956 were of Rs 500 denomination, the Minister said.    

FICN worth Rs 29,22,500 were recovered in West Bengal, Rs 4,80,000 in Assam, Rs 4,40,000 in Punjab, Rs 2,36,000 in Himachal Pradesh and Rs 2,52,000 Jammu and Kashmir, Rijiju said.

While the state police seized FICN with a face value of Rs 1, 26, 62,000 from Gujarat, the NIA seized Rs 4,49,58,000 in Rs 2,000 denomination from the State. The total seizure by NIA from across the country was to the tune of Rs 4,53,54,000 including the Rs 4,49,58,000 from Gujarat. The total seizure by border state police was to the tune of Rs 1,62,66,000 including 1,28,62,000 from Gujarat ( 4251 FICN of Rs 2,000 denomination and 8,720 units of Rs 500 denomination).           

"Indian paramilitary forces and other agencies have seized fake new currency notes of denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 in border states post demonetisation," the minister said in written reply in the Upper House.
