BHOPAL: Ten days after a 30-year-old woman was pushed out of a running train, allegedly by a robber in Hoshangabad district, the Railway Ministry has sought a report on the incident from the railway officials in Bhopal.

The woman has lost one of her legs in the incident. The matter came to light after the woman was shifted to Bhopal for life-saving treatment on Saturday.

According to railway sources in Bhopal, the top brass of the railways in New Delhi sought a report on the matter from the divisional railway manager (DRM) of Bhopal on Sunday.

The woman, identified as Bhuvneshwari Devi, a native of Chhattisgarh and wife of a CRPF constable Raisingh, was travelling from Durg to Nizamuddin along with her brother S Kumar and a two-year-old daughter in sleeper coach S-4 of the Samta Express on April 6.

Just as the train was leaving the Itarsi railway station in Hoshangabad district (100 km from Bhopal), a man tried to snatch her purse even as the other passengers were asleep. She resisted but the robber pushed Bhuvneshwari out of the train. Her seat was near the door of the coach.

It was only after the woman was pushed out of the train that a CRPF jawan Saurabh woke up Bhuvneshwari's brother and they pulled the chain to stop the train.

Once the train stopped, the duo found Bhuvneshwari unconscious and bleeding profusely nearly a km away.

The woman was first admitted in hospital in Itarsi, but was shifted to Bhopal's Hamidia hospital on Saturday, where doctors amputated one of her legs to save her life. She is now stated to be out of danger.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP) staff at Itarsi, a case was filed under Section 394 of IPC against an unidentified person on April 7. Three teams are searching for the accused in Jabalpur, Itarsi and Hoshangabad.
