The BJP petitioned the Election Commission to immediately withdraw the order on use of NOTA, saying that it’s against the principles of indirect elections in the country.

The BJP national general secretary and party in-charge for Gujarat Bhupendra Yadav on Wednesday led a delegation of the party leaders to the EC and submitted a memorandum against the use of NOTA in the upcoming August 8 Rajya Sabha elections in the state.

While the Congress is claiming that the use of NOTA would be exploited by the BJP in the elections against the party nominee, the saffron outfit appears to have opposed it on the ground that there is no Constitutional provision for such an option in the Rajya Sabha elections.

The Election Commission had clarified that it had issued the direction on the use of NOTA in 2014.
