SRINAGAR: An IAS officer, who was Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, was on Friday removed from the post and attached by the State government after his objectionable pictures with two girls went viral on social media.

“Pending inquiry into his conduct, Niraj Kumar, IAS (JK:2010), Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, is hereby attached in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu,” reads an officer issued by J&K government’s General Administrative Department (GAD).

Niraj was removed from the post and attached by the government after his pictures in objectionable position with two girls on a bid supposedly in a hotel room went viral on social media sites including Whatsapp and Facebook.

The pictures caused outrage with netizens and the people demanding stern and immediate action against the IAS officer.

“Shame for the Deputy Commissioner to indulge in such an activity. The pictures are shocking and such behaviour by a public officer is unacceptable,” read the messages of netizens.

Aijaz Ahmad, a resident of Srinagar, said Niraj was deputy commissioner of a sensitive Udhampur district in Jammu province in J&K. “His act has brought disrepute to the office of deputy commissioner. He should be sacked and punished for his act”.

Prior to his appointment as DC Udhampur in May last year, Niraj had served as Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama.

An official spokesman said Arvind Sharma, KAS, Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, shall now look after the work of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, till further orders.
