CHANDIGARH: The son of Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, Vikas Barala (23) and his friend Ashish Kumar (22) both accused of stalking Varnika Kundu, the daughter of an IAS officer have been arrested by the Chandigarh police and charges of abduction have been slapped on them.

Confirming their arrest, Chandigarh director general of police (DGP) Tejinder Singh Luthra said both the accused have been arrested and charges under sections 356 and 511 of the IPC have been slapped on them.

"They will be produced before a court tomorrow and we will seek police custody since we need to interrogate the accused and reconstruct the crime scene,’’ Luthra said.

"We have called both the accused for interrogation and after a long session of questioning, they were arrested,’’ he said adding that the police cannot share further details as the investigation is on.

Luthra said they have been arrested based on many evidence including the CCTV footage and the statement of the witnesses. The police also obtained the advice of District Attorney (Legal) before the arrest.

The medical report confirmed that Vikas Barala and Ashish were drunk while chasing Varnika Kundu. But they refused to give blood and urine samples to the on-duty-doctor. But based on smell and other observations, doctors confirmed that both were heavily drunk. As per the rule book, doctors can confirm whether a suspect was drunk or not, based on other factors other than blood or urine samples.

Earlier, a police team raided the farm house of Barala in at Tohana.
