NEW DELHI: The Delhi transport department has begun the process of equipping 6,350 DTC and cluster buses with CCTV cameras by seeking to hire a consultant for helping it in executing the project.

The consultant will help in identifying a 'system integrator' that will be responsible for providing complete hardware, software, maintenance and workforce for the project and implement it for at least five years, a official said.

A request for proposal (RFP) has been issued to hire the consultant, he said.

The objective of the project was to ensure safety and security of the passengers, particularly of women commuters.

Each bus would be fitted with three IP-based cameras.

Screens of appropriate size would also be provided in each bus to telecast the output from the cameras in a systematic manner.

The video captured by each cameras would be accessed and viewed in real time, from a control room. Live feed would also be available as and when needed, the RFP document said.

The project would ensure access of all CCTV recordings from the control room. The data would be stored, monitored and analysed at the central command and control centre to be established as part of the project, it stated.

Presently, under Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster scheme around 5,500 buses are being run in the city.

The transport department is also buying 1,000 buses each for the DTC and cluster scheme and tenders are to be floated soon.
