Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy urged EAM Sushma Swaraj to intervene and secure the release 10 fishermen of Karaikal region.

PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to intervene and secure the release 10 fishermen of Karaikal region, taken into custody recently by the Sri Lanka navy for allegedly entering their waters when cyclone Ockhi struck.

A release from the Chief Minister's office today said that Narayanasamy, now in Delhi, had presented a letter in this regard to the Union Minister during a meeting with her.

The Chief Minister, who received a representation from the Fishermen's Association of Karaikal informing him of the arrest of the fishermen and seizure of their boats, also requested the union minister to ensure that the seized boats were retrieved, the release said.
