NEW DELHI: The Central paramilitary forces—including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are facing acute shortage of Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG).

Out of a sanctioned IPS strength of 37 posts for deputation as DIGs in CRPF, only three are posted presently. In SSB, only one IPS officer is available as DIG against a sanctioned strength of 23. A similar situation prevails in Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

“Officers who are empanelled in Govt of India as IG/DIG may contact the undersigned for any further details /clarification. They may directly connect with me on pritipiyush@yahoo.co.in,” reads a WhatsApp message from Inspector General (Personnel and Communication, CRPF) Piyush Anand. The message assured those seeking deputation of choice postings. post of 23 DIGs, only one officer is available. If IPS officers don’t join CRPF in the rank of DIG, slowly this avenue of deputation will vanish.

Sources in CRPF said IPS batches between 1999 and 2004 were smaller ones and it could be possible that fewer officers from these are available. The sources admitted that the vacancies have been there for over two years, and that the situation is likely to improve.
