SRINAGAR: JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was today arrested along with five others after he tried to lead a march here to demand mortal remains of party founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Malik appeared at a shrine in Sarai Bala and took out a march towards Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, shortly after Friday prayers but was stopped by police near the main chowk, officials said.

They said Malik, along with his party colleagues Muhammad Yasin Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Dar, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Gazi Javed Baba, were taken into custody after they tried to continue the march.

They were initially lodged at Kothibagh police station and later shifted to central jail Srinagar on remand till February 15, a spokesman of the JKLF said.

Earlier, Malik said the protest rally was being organised to demand mortal remains of Bhat and Guru who were hanged and buried inside the Tihar Jail in Delhi on February 11, 1984 and February 9, 2013, respectively.
