Gallant CRPF commandant braves bullet in Kashmir encounter

In the ensuing gun battle, three army men have been martyred and seven others have been injured.

NEW DELHI: Commandant of the 45 Battalion of CRPF sustained multiple gunshots while fighting the terrorists in the wee hours on Tuesday.

An encounter took place between terrorists and security forces (45 Bn CRPF, 13 RR and SOG) in the wee hours on Tuesday.

"Acting on specific intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hajin area of Bandipora district. Where the troops were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants started firing upon them," the CRPF said in a statement here.

The CRPF further said, "Shri Chetan Kumar Cheetah, Commandant 45 Bn CRPF leading from the front and in a brave and courageous effort to neutralize militants suffered multiple gun-shots and has been shifted to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar."

In the ensuing gun battle, three army men have been martyred and seven others have been injured. One foreign terrorist has been neutralized and same arms and ammunitions have been recovered from the incident site, the statement added.
