Two tainted Uttar Pradesh politicians charged with criminal offences

LUCKNOW: In separate incidences, two Uttar Pradesh politicians, Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and Aman Mani Tripathi, have been charged of committing criminal offenses.

Mani is an Independent candidate from Nautanwa whereas Prajapati is a senior minister from the Akhilesh cabinet. As per CBIprobe, Aman Mani had been subjecting his wife Sara to physical torture, soon after their marriage.

The probe indicates that Sara was murdered on July 9, 2015 by Mani and his aides with a premeditated plan aimed at presenting the death as a road mishap. Arrested by the CBI on November 25, 2016, Mani is presently in judicial custody. His  father Amar Mani Tripathi and mother Madhu Mani are serving life term for murdering a poetess, Madhumita Shukla.

In a separate development, the Uttar Pradesh police filed an FIR against minister Gayatri Prajapati and his six accomplices in connection with cases of alleged gang rape and attempt to rape a woman and her minor daughter.  The FIR was lodged under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.

The Supreme Court on Friday, taking cognizance of the PIL filed by the victim, had directed the police to book the minister since the rape survivor allegedly failed to get an FIR registered against him.

“They photographed me and used the pictures to blackmail me,” the complaint read. Threatening to upload the photographs on social media, the accused and their aides allegedly called her to the minister’s residence in the state capital, where she was raped.

“I was forced to report the matter to the police after the accused tried to outrage the modesty of my 17-year-old daughter and thereafter threatened me and my family of dire consequences,” the rape survivor said.
