RAIPUR: Serial killer Udayan Das (32) after killing his parents quietly took the help of a watchman who was deployed at the under-construction building adjacent to his Sunder Nagar residence in the Chhattisgarh capital of Raipur.

Udayan, who is on transit remand brought by the Chhattisgarh police from Kolkata for further probe, told the security guard that he required a person to dig a wide pit in the courtyard of his house for a septic tank, the police said. The watchman called his brother Manoj Yadav who agreed to accomplish the task.
“Udayan revealed that he engaged Yadav for digging about a 3 feet deep pit and gave him Rs 1100 and a bottle of liquor for the work. Yadav asked for Rs 500 but was given more money by Udayan on the condition that he had to complete digging work before midnight. Yadav didn’t know that the wide hole he dug on the lawn was meant for the bodies of Das couple.

Post midnight, Udayan buried his parents there. We nabbed Yadav who identified Udayan almost instantly”, the Raipur additional superintendent of police Vijay Agrawal told TNIE.

Early this month, the psycho-killer Udayan made a chilling confession before the police of three states - at Kolkata, Raipur and Bhopal, that he killed his parents in July 2010 and buried them in the lawn of his Raipur residence. He also divulged during interrogation that he strangulated his live-in partner Akansha Sharma last year in August and buried her body, packed in a trunk, in the living room of his Bhopal residence.

Chhattisgarh police has constituted a five-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the murder of the parents of Udayan Das.

“The blood of Udayan has been taken for DNA sample and to match it with femur bones of the two skeletal remnants (possibly of his parents) recovered from his Raipur house. This has been submitted to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) for testing”, Agrawal said.
