Former Manipur minister Gangumei Kabui passes away

Former minister Prof Gangmumei Kabui passed away today morning at his residence in Imphal at around 8.15 am.

IMPHAL: Former minister Prof Gangmumei Kabui passed away today morning at his residence in Imphal at around 8.15 am, family sources said.
     
He was 77 and has been ill for a year, his younger brother Jim Gangmei said.
     
Founder president of the erstwhile Federal Party of Manipur (1993-2001), Prof Kabui had served as a Cabinet minister twice in the nineties and was elected twice from Nungba constituency.

The renowned academician joined BJP in 2013 and was involved in various socio-cultural and political activities. He had established several social bodies related with history and performing arts, a family member said.
       
Prof. Kabui also has to his credit more than 15 books related with the history of Manipur and the various ethnic groups settled in the state.
      
He is survived by wife and four children.
