NEW DELHI: The BJP on Tuesday slammed the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for setting up a special investigative team (SIT) team for a probe into the Rose Valley chit fund scam. The BJP accused the West Bengal chief minister of attempting to cover up the scam even while the Supreme Court ordered CBI investigation is being carried out.

“The CBI probe into the chit fund scam is underway and two MPs of the Trinamool Congress – Tapas Paul and Sudip Bandyopadhyay – have been arrested by the investigative agency. The Supreme Court had ordered a CBI probe following a PIL, which was filed after the West Bengal government failed to take any action even after the chit fund scam came out in the open. The constitution of a SIT probe by the state government is just an attempt to cover up the scam, as her party MPs are getting caught by the CBI,” said the BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh.

The BJP leader also hit out at the West Bengal chief minister for giving a call for the formation of a national government at the Centre.

“An elected chief minister of a state is calling for the removal of an elected Prime Minister. This shows that she does not have faith in the people who elected Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country. It’s evident that Mamata Banerjee has lost her mental balance after the money collected under various chit fund scams was made redundant following the decision on demonetization,” added Singh.

The BJP also launched a scathing attack on the TMC and the state government for repeated attacks on party leaders in Kolkata. “The BJP state unit in West Bengal will give a befitting reply to the violent attacks on party leaders who have been highlighting the chit fund scams and involvement of the TMC leaders. The West Bengal BJP unit will intensify agitation in the state,” said Singh.
