JNU set to raise its entrance exam fees after 13 years

The varsity’s fee structure which changed last in 2003 will not be applicable to candidates of reserved categories including SC/ST, physically disabled and Below Poverty Line.

NEW DELHI: Students must now ready themselves to shell out more, as Jawaharlal Nehru University has decided to raise its entrance examinations fee after a gap of 13 years. The decision in this regard was taken by the highest body of the varsity, the Academic Council earlier.  

The varsity’s fee structure which changed last in 2003 will not be applicable to candidates of reserved categories including SC/ST, physically disabled and Below Poverty Line.

"Students from the General Category, OBC and applicants from abroad will also have to pay according to the new fees structure, it has been 13 years since the last change in the structure" said an official privy to the developments.

Earlier, the application fees for B.A program was Rs 420 and for choosing one or more additional programs was Rs 630 and Rs 800. Now, the same has been hiked up to Rs 530, Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 respectively.

Similarly, the fees for M.Phil, PhD, M.Tech, M.Sc, MCA and MA which were Rs 300 earlier have now been increased to Rs 400. For additional disciplines, the candidates will have to pay Rs 575 and Rs 750 respectively.
