GUWAHATI: On his maiden visit to Eastern Command as Army chief on Tuesday, General Bipin Rawat visited the headquarters of the strategic “IV Corps” in Assam’s Tezpur where he was briefed on the security situation in the Corps, both from external and internal security point of view, by Corps commander Lt Gen AS Bedi.

Eastern Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi and Lt Gen AS Bedi received Rawat on his arrival. Later, they visited Tawang and the forward areas in western Arunachal Pradesh bordering China.

“General Rawat himself commanded a Corps in the Eastern Command and is well acquainted with the nuances of operational scenario here. He was satisfied with the operational preparedness of 4 Corps and encouraged all ranks of the Corps to keep up the high state of alertness and professionalism displayed by them,” a defence release said. 

Later, on his way to Delhi, General Rawat visited Imphal in Manipur.
