LUCKNOW: It was a bonhomie all the way amidst flowers, rose petals for Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav as both leaders, loaded with garlands, covered a 12-km stretch atop Vikas se Vijay Rath during their roadshow in state capital Lucknow on Sunday.

Immediately after addressing a joint press conference, the scions of SP and Congress embarked upon the three-hour long road show from GPO Park in famous Hazratganj after paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Both the leaders criss-crossed the state capital on Vikas Rath flashing the victory sign and signaling unity to boost the morale of their supporters and party workers who were waving Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress flags all along the roads.

The specially designed Rath was adorned with the pictures of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav along with Sonia Gandhi and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and the alliance's catch line 'UP ko yeh saath pasand hai' all over. It may be recalled that the Vikas Rath had broke down on November 3 when the CM launched Vijay Se Vikas ki Ore Yatra.

The Rath was moving along with scores of SP and Congress workers who were raising slogans in support of the newly-struck alliance and showered flower petals on the leaders amid the beating of drums and songs in praise of the two parties.

The impressive road show covered majorly the old city areas which are densely populated with a sizable Muslim population. The route of the road show was planned to attract maximum number of people from a cross section of society. The road show culminated in a public meeting addressed by the alliance partners at the historic 'Ghanta Ghar' in the Chowk area of Lucknow.
